Northern Lehigh Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan

The purpose of the Northern Lehigh Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan is to enable the Borough of Slatington and the Townships of Heidelberg, Lynn, Lowhill, Washington and Weisenberg to shape their collective vision for the future. A multi-municipal comprehensive plan allows each municipality to keep autonomy and control but allows the communities as a region to take advantage of geographic similarities, address common priorities and better manage an evolving development landscape. The multi-municipal plan determines common goals and objectives for areas of land use, housing, air quality, transportation, development, recreational facilities, natural and scenic resource conservation, farmland preservation and economic development. This joint planning effort also facilitates the sharing of resources in support of the long-term sustainability of the municipalities.

Principle Land Use Table

A multi-municipal zoning Principle Land Use Table guides land use planning by regulating the type, location, and density of development within the participating municipalities of the 2022 Northern Lehigh Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan which in turn promotes the public's health, safety, morals, and general welfare of all of the participating municipalities.

This Principle Land Use Table is specifically designed to prevent overcrowding, blight, and other dangers while preserving natural resources and prime agricultural land. This Principle Land Use Table also aims to create a coordinated and practical community land development plan, considering current and future population density and the existing and potential need for essential and additional services like transportation, available public water and public sewer systems and additional public schools. By having this land use table in place, the public's well-being is being maintained by preventing overcrowding, blight, and other issues that could harm our health and safety, while preserving our most valuable natural resources, such as forests, streams, wetlands, woodlands, open space and prime agricultural land.

Lastly this Principle Land Use Use Table must be consistent with both 2022 Northern Lehigh Multi-Municipal and the Lehigh County "Futures" Comprehensive plans, making sure that all land development aligns with the overall vision for our region. In essence, this multi-municipal Principle Land Use Table is a vital tool for managing development so that Lowhill Township’s future needs are met in a coordinated and sustainable manner.
